DVR deleted data recovery

In this article, I talk about DVR deleted data recovery.

If you accidentally deleted your security footage and want to have it back, a DVR data recovery software can help you accomplish this task.

Let’s take a look at how to do this.

Ways to Recover Deleted Recordings from a DVR

There are different methods to recover the deleted videos from your DVR; however, that depends on the recorder model you are using.

If you are using a well-known brand DVR such as Pelco, Bosch, March Networks, etc., you can contact the technical support team and ask for help. Sometimes they have a special recovery software or a secret procedure to help you out.

If you don’t have such DVRs or can’t get any help from the manufacturer, the best option is to use a general hard drive data recovery software such as the EaseUS.

This type of software recovers the data on the hard drive. It does not matter if you lost videos, audio, or any other data type since the technical principle is the same for writing the disc plates’ information.

Procedure to Recover Deleted Recordings from a DVR

It’s necessary to remove the hard drive from your DVR (or NVR) and install it on a computer to get the data. This computer must have the recovery software.

Here are the steps to remove the hard drive (HDD) form your DVR.

  • Use a screw drive to open your DVR;
  • Disconnect the SATA and power cables;
  • Remove the screws that hold the HDD in place;
  • Remove the HDD.

Install the HDD into a computer or use a USB Hard Drive adapter.

Once you have your hard drive in place, you can use the data recovery software.

Let’s see how it works.

Software to recover deleted CCTV recording

Here’s the step-by-step to recover the deleted videos from your HDD.

  • Open the EaseUS software;
  • Select the hard drive you want to recover the data from;
  • Wait for the software to scan the hard drive;
  • Choose the files you want to recover;
  • Click the recover button and wait for the process to complete;
  • Install the hard drive back to the DVR and export the videos.

The following pictures show the process details.

– Use the mouse to select the hard drive, as shown below.

– The software scans the hard drive to look for the deleted files.

– Once the software finds the files, select them and click recover.

– Once the software finds the files, select them and click recover.

And it’s done. But there’s still an extra step.

==> Due to the proprietary format, the files are not directly readable on your computer, and you need to use the DVR to read them and export them to a .avi or .mp4 file that a computer can play with software such as VLC.

DVR deleted data recovery is not easy and requires some effort on your part.

In some rare cases (consumer product), the DVR records the files directly into .mp4 format, so you don’t need to install the hard drive back to the recorder to playback the videos.
